Preserving the Existing Instead of Demolishing
We were told everything had to go.
But we chose to continue the story instead.
In this bathroom, nothing started from scratch.
The intention was never to erase, but to transform gently, to let the past remain visible while allowing the space to evolve.
Restoring the Art Deco Bathtub
The original Art Deco bathtub was severely worn and marked by time.
Many would have removed it without hesitation.
We chose restoration instead.

The Art Deco bathtub, once considered too damaged to keep, was professionally re-enameled.
We always saw it as the soul of the room — and saving it felt essential.
A Chevron Floor to Warm the Space

To soften the bathroom’s previous cold tiles, we installed a chevron patterned floor inspired by traditional parquet.
The pattern brings movement and visual continuity with the rest of the apartment, creating a warmer and more domestic atmosphere — closer to a living space than a purely functional bathroom.
A Custom Painted IKEA Vanity
The vanity began as a simple IKEA cabinet.

Repainting it in a muted green allowed it to integrate with the room’s palette and echo the dialogue between vintage and contemporary elements present throughout the home.
Changing the handles added another subtle layer of character.
Finishing Touches Still to Come
The space continues to evolve slowly.

Future additions will include molded baseboards, an Art Deco mirror and additional lighting to reinforce the room’s atmosphere without overwhelming it.
This bathroom was never meant to be new.
Only to continue existing — differently.
