A dollhouse is never only a toy.
It is a space of projection, a small architecture of memory, care and imagination.
This dollhouse arrived empty, almost silent.
I wanted to turn it into a lived interior, a miniature home shaped by time, softness and stories.
Through wallpapers, vintage objects, textile and gentle light, it slowly became a poetic mouse house : a place that could hold childhood, rest and quiet everyday rituals.
The empty house
I began with the raw structure, its simple architecture already full of charm.
The tall proportions, open façade and visible rooms make it closer to a real house than a toy.
I kept the original palette soft and neutral, letting materials and light remain the base of the atmosphere.
Wallpapers and surfaces
Walls shape the emotional tone of a house, even more in miniature.
I used delicate scrapbook papers to create rooms that feel aged, intimate and gentle.
Soft florals, tiny patterns and faded tones evoke childhood interiors and old storybooks.
Each rooms received its own quiet identity while remaining harmonised across the house.
Furnishing the mouse home
Furnishing the house was a balance between vintage finds and handmade details found online.
I mixed new miniature furniture with older objects including fabrics to avoid the feeling of a toy set.
This layering creates depth, as if the house had been inhabited over time rather that assembled at once.
A House Still Unfolding
This dollhouse was never imagined as a finished object, but as a small interior slowly composed over time, room by room, object by object.
In this first article, I wanted to share the overall atmosphere, the structure, the palette, and the feeling of a miniature home inhabited day after day.
But each room holds its own story.
In the next part, I will step closer into the house : exploring individuals rooms, small compositions and the intimate details that give depth and life to this handmade Maileg dollhouse.
